International Religious Liberty Association at President Hotel, Moscow

It’s been 25 years since Russia introduced its landmark laws "Concerning Freedom of Conscience and Religious Organizations" and "Concerning Freedom of Religion." Oleg Goncharov, Secretary General of IRLA Euro-Asia region, participated in a recent conference in Moscow marking the anniversary.

The event brought together government leaders, along with representatives of different faith groups and advocacy organizations. Sergei Ivanov, Chairman of the Council for Cooperation with... Religious Organizations under the President of the Russian Federation, told the group, "The adoption of these laws legislates citizens' rights for religious freedom and activities, but also plays a huge role in the life of society, in the revival of centuries-old spiritual and moral values, and opening new possibilities for co-work of the state and religious organizations."
